This silky-smooth soul number from Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes heads up the group's 1972 debut album, which was released on Philadelphia International and produced by powerhouse duo Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff. "Ever since you went away / I ain't been doing nothing but / (Thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking, thinking) / With my head in my hands / You been away from me so long / And I just don't think I can carry on so I start / (Drinking, drinking, drinking, drinking, drinking) / Each and every night," they croon, with backing vocals provided by Teddy Pendergrass, Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, Bunny Sigler, and Carl Helm. After Philly soul heroes Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes achieved a Number 3 US Billboard Hot 100 hit with enduring classic "If You Don't Know Me by Now" (written by Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff and later famously covered by Simply Red), they were encouraged to change the title of their album from I Miss You to Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes.
