This dramatic song from Hank Williams, Jr. revolves around a wooden Native American statue. "Kaw-Liga" was originally written by Hank Williams, Sr. with Fred Rose, a musician, Hall of Fame songwriter, and music publishing executive who produced the former's records and published his songs through his company Acuff-Rose. The track was famously recorded during Hank Williams' final recording session on September 23, 1952, at Castle Studio in Nashville. He died of a heart attack the following year after a destructive period of substance abuse. The original version of "Kaw-Liga" was released posthumously in January 1953 and hung around at the top of the Billboard Country chart for 14 weeks. Hank Williams, Jr. released his own cover version in 1980.
