The first song from the cast recording album of the groundbreaking hip hop musical Hamilton (2015), "Alexander Hamilton" is a grandiloquent opening statement, introducing every character in the story and their relationship with the main protagonist, American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. The track was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda and was included in an unreleased project called The Hamilton Mixtape. An early version of the song was first performed at the White House poetry jam in 2009, receiving a standing ovation from the audience, which included former President Barack Obama. Even though it was originally conceived as a monologue for Aaron Burr, the musical's main antagonist, Lin-Manuel Miranda decided to add the rest of the characters to the song, setting the stage for Alexander Hamilton's apperance. After its release, "Alexander Hamilton" reached Number 98 on the Rolling Stone Top 100 and was performed at the 58th edition of the Grammy Awards in 2016.
