One of the most iconic duets in the history of soul music, "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was written by the husband-and-wife songwriting duo of Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson in 1966. According to its authors, English singer Dusty Springfield had intentions of recording the song but the pair refused hoping it would catch the attention of Motown Records. In 1967, Ashford and Simpson joined the Detroit-based label, which released the Marvin Gaye-Tammi Terrell duet "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" through its subsidiary Tamla later that year. Driven forward by the powerful chemistry between both singers, the groovy love song became a Top 20 hit in the US and was the first in a series of successful duets that continued with "You're All I Need to Get By," "Ain't Nothing Like the Real Thing," and "Your Precious Love." The Gaye-Terrell version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and later appeared on the soundtrack of the 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy.
