"I Know You Rider," also known as "Woman Blues" and "I Know My Babe," is a classic blues anthem that has become a staple of American music history. Though many versions have been released throughout the years, perhaps one of the most iconic ones belongs to the psychedelic rock band The Grateful Dead. Their rendition, seamlessly tied to "China Cat Sunflower," showcased their ability to blend psychedelic sounds with traditional folk and country elements. It was a hallmark of their live performances from 1965 and prominently featured on their 1972 live album, Europe '72. Tracing its origins to Blind Lemon Jefferson's "Deceitful Brownskin Blues" from 1927, the song found its scholarly acknowledgment in John and Alan Lomax's 1934 American Ballads and Folk Songs. Throughout the 1960s, "I Know You Rider" gained momentum within the folk community, with artists like the Kingston Trio, Judy Roderick, and John Renbourn contributing to its legacy.
