Gordon Lightfoot wrote Early Morning Rain in 1964. The song was first taken on by Canadian duo Ian and Sylvia, as well as Peter, Paul and Mary and Judy Collins—who included her version on her Fifth Album in 1965—until the Canadian folk-pop icon recorded his own version for his debut albumLightfoot! that same year. The track is sung from the perspective of a homesick man feeling mournful as he watches aeroplanes take off at the airport. "And I'm stuck here in the grass / With a pain that ever grows," he sings. "Early Morning Rain" was re-recorded by Gordon Lightfoot in 1975 for his album Gord's Gold. The compilation LP collects some of Gordon Lightfoot's best-loved songs to date—including "Canadian Railroad Trilogy," "If You Could Read My Mind," and "Carefree Highway"— and was originally released as a vinyl double album. He followed it up with a second volume, Gord's Gold, Vol. 2, in 1988.

Had a hard time finding the song in the past for karaoke. This version work very well with my voice and sound very close to the original by Mr Lightfoot. Very pleased.
