American soul duo Gnarls Barkley, consisting of singer-songwriter CeeLo Green and superstar producer Danger Mouse, made a big splash on the music scene with the release of their debut album St. Elsewhere (2006). The album was preceded by the release of the duo’s debut single, “Crazy,” on March 13, 2006. However, “Crazy” was such a hotly anticipated release, that the song actually leaked onto the Internet in 2005, picking up steam from various media outlets who reported on the leak. Once it was formally released, “Crazy” became the first single to top the UK Singles Chart based solely on download sales. It also topped the US Billboard Adult Alternative Songs chart and reached Number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “Crazy” also earned a Grammy Award for Best Urban/Alternative Performance in 2007. Since its release, it’s been covered by artists such as Violent Femmes, Nelly Furtado, and many others.
