"We're here in the after of a murderous crafter, the past / Is spun like a yarn and mangled / With flesh and blood and bones, I wonder," sing Ghost on this time-traveling trip back to Victorian England. Infused with a virtuoso guitar solo "Respite on the Spitalfields" draws inspiration from the crimes of the unidentified East End serial killer Jack the Ripper and is constructed from hard riffage and melodic balladry that underscores the tragic subject-matter with a foreboding sense of melancholy. The track was taken from the Swedish occult rockers' critically acclaimed fifth full-length studio album IMPERA, which was produced by Klas Ahlund and revolved around a central theme of "the rise and fall of empires". IMPERA reached a wider audience in 2021 when a version of the first single, "Hunter's Moon," was featured in the slasher film Halloween Kills (as part of its closing credits), directed by David Gordon Green.
