"Last night I broke the seal on a Jim Beam decanter / That looks like Elvis / I soaked the label off a Flintstone Jelly Bean jar," reflects George Jones evocatively in the unforgettable opening lines to his 1989 maudlin country lament, "The King Is Gone (So Are You)". Told through the eyes of a lonely drinking man who arrives at the foolishly drunken conclusion that Elvis and Fred Flinstone are drinking pals, the songs adds a sense of humour to heartbreak ("Yabba Dabba Doo, the King is gone"), with the Texas country icon whimsically sliding his distinctive voice around the two with ease. Originally titled "Ya Ba Da Ba Do (So Are You)," "The King is Gone (So Are You)" was written by Roger D. Ferris and released by George Jones as a single April 1989, appearing on his album for Epic Records, One Woman Man, which also included a cover The Louvin Brothers' 1958 single "My Baby's Gone."
