"New Way to Fly" is a song from country singer Garth Brooks' second studio album, No Fences (1990). Perhaps best known for hit singles such as "The Thunder Rolls," "Friends in Low Places," "Unanswered Prayers," and "Two of a Kind, Workin' on a Full House," No Fences also featured the heartbreaking country ballad "New Way to Fly," written in collaboration with singer-songwriter Kim Williams. The song was originally going to be included in Garth Brooks' 1989 eponymous studio debut, but was ultimately left out do to an abundance of ballads on the track list. Its lyrics convey a message of hope and resilience in the face of adversity and personal struggles, using the birds sitting atop the high wires on the highway as a metaphor. Even though "New Way to Fly" was in a way overshadowed by the bigger hits on the album, it eventually became a fan favorite and a staple of Garth Brooks' live repertoire. It also features harmony vocals from the then up-and-coming singer-songwriter Trisha Yearwood. No Fences, its parent album, was a huge success for Garth Brooks, reaching Number 1 on the US country charts and peaking at Number 3 on the Billboard 200.
