On "Summer Wind," Frank Sinatra sketches a picture-perfect summer day filled with "painted kites," "a blue umbrella sky" and his lover right by his side. However, like the weather, this joy is purely fleeting and he ultimately loses his lover to someone else. "The summer wind, came blowin' in from across the sea / It lingered there, to touch your hair and walk with me / All summer long, we sang a song / And then we strolled that golden sand / Two sweethearts, and the summer wind." Originally written by Heinz Meier with German language lyrics by Hans Bradtke, "Summer Wind" was released in Germany as "Der Sommerwind" (1965). It was reworked by Johnny Mercer who wove a sirocco (Mediterranean wind) theme into the song. Frank Sinatra recorded "Summer Wind (solo)" in 1966 and it reached Number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as well as topping the Easy Listening chart. It was featured on his 1966 album, Strangers in the Night.
