Although American rock mainstays Foo Fighters intended to release their tenth studio outing Medicine at Midnight in 2020, the album had to be pushed back to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recorded between October 2019 and February 2020, Medicine at Midnight finally arrived on February 5, 2021, and received critical acclaim for blending the band's alternative and hard rock leanings with elements of dance-rock and mainstream pop. Three singles from Medicine at Midnight reached Number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock charts—"Shame Shame," "Waiting on a War," and "Making a Fire,"—and the album itself peaked at Number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100. Released as the album's fifth single, "Love Dies Young" was praised by critics as one of the strongest songs in the LP, with its chugging guitars, propulsive beat, and incredibly catchy chorus getting the band further into pop territory. Shortly after its commercial release, "Love Dies Young" climbed to Number 6 on the Alternative Airplay chart and Number 4 on the Mainstream Rock chart. An accompanying video featuring actor Jason Sudeikis was unveiled in late 2021.
