Finding the British-American rock band in mellow, reflective mode, 1975's snow-topped folk meditation "Landslide" sees lead singer Stevie Nicks consider her romantic relationship with Lindsey Buckingham as well as her relationship with her father. Written the previous year in the snowy mountains of Aspen, Colorado, Stevie Nicks cleverly weaves the landscape into her metaphor-rich lyrics. "I took my love, took it down / I climbed a mountain, and I turned around / And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills / Till the landslide brought me down," she sings, with the mystic air that pervades her celebrated voice. Three months after Stevie Nicks wrote the song, and Mick Fleetwood called to invite her and Lindsey Buckingham to join Fleetwood Mac. The track was featured on their first self-titled album of 1975 and performed by the band with acoustic guitar and an electric solo that wafts in on the bridge. "Landslide" was given a new lease of life in the 1990s through various cover versions, including Tori Amos and The Smashing Pumpkins.
