After ruling the emo-rock roost during the 2000s and receiving a Best New Artist nomination at the 2006 Grammy Awards, Fall Out Boy bowed out gracefully following the lukewarm reception to 2008 album Folie à Deux, with the band splitting up to carve their own musical paths. They released a greatest hits collection, Believers Never Die – Greatest Hits, and went on hiatus in 2009, only to return in 2013 with a statement-setting, career-reviving album called Save Rock and Roll. Anchored by the Elton John-featuring title track—which also weaves in a vocal track of "Chicago Is So Two Years Ago" from Fall Out Boy's own debut 2003 album Take This to Your GraveSave Rock and Roll boasts guest spots from Foxes, Big Sean, Courtney Love, and Elton John. The title track riffs on a joke made by frontman Pete Wentz about the band's return to music, also reflecting on the wider resurgence of guitar-led bands in the commercial radio spotlight.
