The mighty Phil Collins put his synth-wielding stamp on "Same Old Blues" and the result is an edifying mix of retro-futuristic blues power. The song was featured on Behind the Sun, the ninth solo studio album from Eric Clapton which marked the legendary guitarist's first collaborative project with Phil Collins who not only co-produced the album but also poured his musical talents into some of the tracks, notably playing synthesizers and drum machines. "Behind the Sun," which makes a titular reference to Muddy Waters's "Louisiana Blues," was released in 1985 and also marked Eric Clapton's first collaboration with songwriter Jerry Lynn Williams. Legend has it, while recording Behind the Sun, Clapton temporarily split up with his wife so you can make what you will of lines like "I miss you already, baby, more than words can say" and "I love you, babe, nevermore will I go away."
