Gram Parsons said it best: "Love Hurts". The US country-rock trailblazer and Flying Burrito Brothers founder teamed with another star in the country field, Emmylou Harris, for this folksy heartbreaker originally recorded by The Everly Brothers and penned by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant. Their version was included on Gram Parsons's posthumous 1974 album Grievous Angel – which garnered critical acclaim despite failing to achieve notable commercial success – and was released the year following the star's death from a morphine and alcohol overdose in September 1973. However, arguably the defining version of "Love Hurts" came two years later from hard-rocking Scots Nazareth in the form of 1976 power ballad; they went all the way to number 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 with their interpretation of the song that includes this poetic reminder: "Love is like a stove / Burns you when it's hot".
