Back in July 1954, Elvis Presley flexed his vocal cords for his debut record, and came up with a song widely considered – but hotly debated – to be one of the first rock 'n roll records by a white artist. "That's All Right" was originally written and performed by Delta blues artist Arthur Crudup and recorded in Chicago in September 1946, and is a guitar-driven upbeat number that has stood the test of time. For Elvis Presley's interpretation of the song, Scotty Moore was on lead guitar and Bill Black was on string bass while the star himself played acoustic rhythm guitar. Recorded at Memphis's iconic Sun Studio by trailblazing rock 'n roll producer Sam Phillips, the single made it to Number 4 on the local Memphis charts but enjoyed a fresh burst of exposure 50 years later when it was released as a CD single in the UK and entered the UK Singles Chart at Number 3. Recorded in 1970, the fast-paced "That's All Right (live in Las Vegas)" captures all the electrifying energy of a live Elvis Presley performance.
