Composed by producer, singer and songwriter Guy Fletcher with his trusty writing partner Doug Flett, "Just Pretend" was recorded by Elvis Presley in 1970 and featured on his twelfth studio album That’s the Way It Is, released on RCA Records and comprising eight studio tracks recorded at the RCA Studio B in Nashville and four live tracks recorded at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. "Just Pretend" was one of the live performance tracks and shows Elvis Presley in a moment of restrained emotion, with the song starting out with a low croon (Just pretend, I'm holding you / And whispering things soft and low / And think of me, how it's going to be / Just pretend I didn't go) before it unfurls into an epic, soaring chorus, bolstered by orchestrations and a backing choir: "And I'll come flying to you, again / All my crying is true / Oh, I will hold you and love you again / But until then, we'll just pretend." The song made a re-appearance in 2016 on the album The Wonder of You: Elvis Presley with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
