Perhaps one of the most endearing love songs in Elvis Presley's catalog, "Can't Help Falling in Love" first appeared in the King of Rock and Roll's album Blue Hawaii (1961), which served as the soundtrack to the romantic comedy of the same name. Written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss, the song's main melody was based on the 18th-century French love song "Plaisir d'amour" by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini. A few months after its release in October 1961, "Can't Help Falling in Love" topped the Official UK Singles Chart and reached Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, only surpassed by Joey Dee and the Starliters' "Peppermint Twist." Throughout the mid to late 1970s, the song was the closing number for several of Elvis Presley's live shows, including the 1973 live broadcast special Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite. It was also the last song he performed live at a concert in Indianapolis on June 26, 1977. In the following years, "Can't Help Falling in Love" was covered by countless artists, including Bob Dylan, UB40, and U2.
