When thinking of era-defining pop hits, Dusty Springfield’s I Only Want to Be With You is one of the first ones that come to mind. With its energetic backing track and impassioned performance by a young Dusty Springfield, the tune—written by British songwriters Mike Hawker and Ivor Raymonde—took the world by storm upon its release in 1963. The song was first intended for Jean Ryder (wife of Mike Hawker at the time) to perform, but it was given to Dusty Springfield as a debut single to kickstart her solo career. The single was recorded by Johnny Franz, with an arrangement by Ivor Raymonde. I Only Want to Be With You was a global success, peaking at Number 4 on the UK Singles chart and Number 12 in the US chart. Dusty Springfield also performed the song on the first-ever edition of the legendary BBC show Top of the Pops, in January 1964. The song would go on to be covered by many artists (including a chart-topping version for the Bay City Rollers) and even in multiple languages, such as Mexican pop star Luis Miguel’s hit single Ahora Te Puedes Marchar in 1987.

Has the 60s sound rather than the karaoke synth sound - I like that, and I like that it has a sharp end rather than a fade. Perfect for what I need.
