Featuring the world-dominating talents of Grammy-nominated megastar Jelly Roll, Dustin Lynch's 2023 single "Chevrolet" reworks Dobie Gray's 1973 soft-rock hit "Drift Away" into a roadworthy country groover, swapping the hook "Oh, give me the beat boys and free my soul" for "Give me a dirt road, the windows down". “Drift Away" was in fact written by singer-songwriter Mentor Williams, who first recorded the song in 1972 before Dobie Gray sailed into international chart waters with his version the following year. For his 2023 interpretation, Dustin Lynch teamed with Nashville songwriters Chase McGill, Jessi Alexander, and Hunter Phelps and added the track to his sixth studio album Killed the Cowboy, which was released in September 2023 through Broken Bow Records and largely produced by Zach Crowell. The LP served as the follow-up to Dustin Lynch's 2022 effort Blue in the Sky, which was also produced by Zach Crowell.
