Duran Duran formed in 1978 and blew up during the new romantic '80s, enjoying a hit-studded career that yielded era-defining classics like "Girls on Film" – the first of the band’s 11 top 10 Billboard Hot 100 hits – "Hungry Like the Wolf" and "Rio". However, they refused to go gentle into the good night of the '90s and, following the lukewarm reception to 1990 album Liberty, bounced back late in 1992 to add yet another huge hit to their repertoire with "Ordinary World". For Duran Duran fans used to the coiffeured uptempo schtick of their previous material, "Ordinary World" – and particularly this acoustic version – marked a dramatic shift in sound towards a more introspective, lighters-in-the-air moment, accentuated by its soaring chorus. However, the ballad became a radio scorcher nonetheless, going to number three in the US and number six in the UK, while in October 2021 it became their second-most streamed song in the UK.
