Duane Eddy transformed electric rock 'n' roll guitar like no other, bagging a cache of hit records during the late 1950s and early 1960s in thrall to a unique, twangy sound that laid the blueprint for many to follow. "(Dance with the) Guitar Man" formed the title track of his 1963 LP, which was a top 20 hit in the UK and cracked the Billboard 200 chart. Written by Duane Eddy and regular collaborator Lee Hazlewood—whose trailblazing use of echo was a cornerstone of Duane Eddy's aesthetic—"(Dance with the) Guitar Man," is brightened by a female-led chorus from The Rebelettes (aka Darlene Love and The Blossoms) and a party-starting invitation: "Hey, everybody / Come along if you can / We’re gonna take a ride uptown / And listen to the guitar man / Then we're gonna dance." "(Dance with the) Guitar Man" song peaked at number four on the UK Singles Chart, number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, and number three in Norway in 1962.
