County Carlow-born singer Derek Ryan rose to fame as a member of lovable Irish boy band D-Side in the early naughties, achieving notable success in Japan across three albums before calling it quits in 2006. Following the group's dissolution, Derek Ryan made the pivot from mainstream pop to country and Irish, releasing his debut solo album A Mother's Son in 2010 and later setting up his own production house and label, Ryan Records. Over the next decade, he ascended to the top table of Ireland's country and Irish scene, regularly entertaining with his riotous live shows and chart-friendly albums. This 2021 "Festival Medley" shows Derek Ryan at his party-starting best, mining a selection of Celtic songs: 1988 hit "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by Scottish duo The Proclaimers, "Dirty Old Town," as immortalised by The Pogues, "I Useta Lover" by Irish rockers The Saw Doctors and Scottish folk ballad "Tam Lin."
