"Monkey Around" is a song by Delbert McClinton from his 1997 album One of the Fortunate Few. It's a roadhouse blues song that finds the Texas-born singer telling his woman that while it's true he's been monkeying around, she's the one who turned him into a monkey. "Once you had me dancin' at the end of your chain / Begging for your small change, love / I was jumpin' through hoops, doing loop-de-loops / But, girl, I've finally had enough." In April of 2021, the four-time Grammy winner announced his retirement after 63 years in music. The 80-year-old worked with blues legends in Texas including Muddy Waters, and B.B. King, headlined shows with the Beatles in England, and toured the world with his own band for many years. “I have had a decent career, and I have accomplished more than I ever dreamed I would," he said. "With that in mind, this is a good time to retire.”
