"Pour Some Sugar on Me" is a song from Def Leppard's fourth studio album, Hysteria (1987). It was written by Joe Elliott, Phil Collen, Steve Clark, and Rick Savage with additional input from producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange. The track was built around a guitar riff that lead singer Joe Elliott had come up with during the final stage of the album's recording sessions. Partially inspired by the crossover success of the Run-DMC and Aerosmith collaboration "Walk This Way," "Pour Some Sugar on Me" features overly sexual lyrics that began as a series of stream-of-consciousness phonetic sounds recorded over the instrumental. It was first released in the UK as the album's third single on September 8, 1987, reaching Number 18 on the British charts. However, "Pour Some Sugar on Me" enjoyed much more popularity across the Atlantic, where it peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song's success was instrumental in sending its parent album Hysteria to Number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts, helping the band earn its first US chart-topper. In 2012, amidst a royalty conflict with their former label, Def Leppard re-recorded the song and released it under the name "Pour Some Sugar on Me 2012."
