Italian-American traditional pop maestro Dean Martin kept his Italian heritage alive in songs like 1953 masterstroke "That's Amore," 1958's "Volare" and, of course, 1955's "Mambo Italiano." On this musical postcard from the "Bel Paese," "The Man Who Plays the Mandolino," Dean Martin paints a portrait of a "happy" mandolin player with "a twinkle in his eye." "Italians love to sip a cup of cappuccino / And listen to the man who plays the mandolino," he croons. Released as a single in 1957, "The Man Who Plays the Mandolino"—which was written by Alan Bergman, Marilyn Bergman, and Giuseppe Fucilli and produced by Lee Gillette—was later featured on Dean Martin's 1964 compilation album Hey, Brother, Pour the Wine, which also packed in favourites like "Sway (Quien Sera)," "Standing on the Corner" and "Memories Are Made of This." Dean Martin scored a hit on UK soil with "The Man Who Plays the Mandolino," which peaked at number 21.
