Clocking in at over six minutes long, "Stay" is the penultimate jam on David Bowie's 1976 album Station to Station. With guitarists Carlos Alomar and Earl Slick at the helm, the track throws funk and rock into the blender for a thrilling yet strung-out cocaine-powered meditation. Co-produced by Bowie and Harry Maslin with bass from George Murray, drums and percussion from Dennis Davis and Warren Peace and piano from Roy Bittan, the track—a funk overhaul of David Bowie's 1972 gem "John, I'm Only Dancing (Again)"— is the sound of a group of men who have no doubt been up all night. The philosophy-inspired Station to Station is one of David Bowie's most celebrated albums, through which he channelled his performance alter ego "the Thin White Duke" while taking a more experimental approach and bringing electronic music and krautrock into the mix, following the commercial triumph that was 1975's landmark LP Young Americans.
