"The Power of Gold" was the first and only single from the album Twin Sons of Different Mothers (1978), a collaborative effort between American musician Dan Fogelberg and jazz flute player Tim Weisberg. Released in August 1978, the song is a dreamy soft rock number about how greed and power can change a person without them knowing. It was written and produced by Dan Fogelberg, with additional production credits to Tim Weisberg. Shortly after its commercial release, "The Power of Gold" reached Number 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 51 on the Canadian charts, becoming Dan Fogelberg's biggest hit up to that point. Its parent album, Twin Sons of Different Mothers, peaked at Number 8 on the Billboard 200 and even charted in Australia, where it hit Number 81. The album marked the first time the two musicians worked together, with the second being 1995's No Resemblance Whatsoever.
