"Some Say the Devil Is Dead" is a track by Irish folk music Ceol, released as part of their 2023 self-titled studio debut. Created in 2021 by country artist Nathan Carter and former Six member Liam McKenna, Ceol ("music song" in Gaelic) started as a project to breathe new life into traditional Irish folk music classics. With that goal in mind, the group, led by Matthew Crampsey, James O'Sullivan, Cathal Dervan, and Daryl Philips, began releasing music in 2022 in anticipation of their full-length debut. Featuring a tracklist consisting of mainly traditional Irish folk covers, their self-titled album was released in 2023. The album included a rendition of The Wolfe Tones' 1978 song "Some Say the Devil Is Dead," based on a traditional 19th-century folk tune also known as "The Devil's Song." Its lyrics, which jokingly suggest "the Devil is dead and joined the British Army," reflect the anti-British sentiment present in Ireland at the time of its creation.
