One of the most evocative and sexually-driven songs on her seminal, groundbreaking 1971 album Tapestry, on "I Feel The Earth Move", Carole King moved mountains and redirected the conversation with her climatic, piano-driven showstopper. One of six Tapestry songs she wrote on her own (as opposed to taking on a cover or joining forces with songwriting partner and ex-husband Gerry Goffin) I Feel the Earth Move opens the album on a sensual, bluesy note with Carole King evoking a powerful image; "I feel the earth / Move / Under my feet / I feel the sky tumbling down / I feel my heart start to trembling / Whenever you're around", before veering off into smoother, tender territory. Tapestry is one of the defining albums of the 1970s, having spent nearly six years on the album charts – also receiving three Grammys – and there are few album openers capable of rivalling its explosive charm and impact.
