A far cry from the swaggering soft-rock of 1972 smash-hit, "You're So Vain," Carly Simon's 20th album saw the legendary US singer-songwriter embrace the world of standards for a sophisticated, noirish pop turn that received the Grammy Award nomination for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album in 2006. A swing ballad crafted by Glenn Miller, the track perfectly embodied Carly Simon's dynamic songcraft. Released in 2005, Moonlight Serenade marked her fourth album of standards, following Torch (1981), My Romance (1990), and Film Noir (1997), and went to number seven on the Billboard 200, where it stuck around 10 weeks, also becoming Carly Simon's first US Top 10 album since 1978's Boys in the Trees (1978). The LP was coincidentally produced with Richard Perry, who she had in fact worked with on "You're So Vain" (as well as her other huge hit, "Nobody Does It Better") all those years ago.
