"Atlantic City" is a song by Bruce Springsteen from his 1982 album Nebraska. The stripped-down album was something new for the Jersey rocker. Springsteen played all the instruments, wrote the songs, and produced the project using a Teac 4-track cassette recorder. After re-recording the songs with the E Street Band, he made the decision to release his original demos as the album. Springsteen's blending of gritty first-person narratives with lo-fi production created one of his most highly regarded releases. "Atlantic City" tells the story of a couple heading to NJ's gambling city to get away from it all. There is a dark undercurrent of desperation throughout the song. By the third verse, the tortured protagonist finds a glimmer of hope in something we, as the listener, recognize as his sad downfall. "So, honey, last night, I met this guy, and I'm gonna do a little favor for him."
