"Monster Mash" is a song by Bobby Boris Pickett. It is the most popular novelty song of all time. Pickett was an aspiring actor who would go on auditions during the day and sing with a band at night. He started goofing around on stage imitating horror film actor Boris Karloff's Frankenstein voice. The audience loved it and fellow band member Lenny Capizzi suggested he do something with that wacky voice so the two of them wrote "Monster Mash." The lyrics tell of the night the Frankenstein monster started doing a new dance. What follows is a dance party with a guest list that included the Wolfman, assorted zombies, and Dracula and his son. Originally titled Monster Twist after the twist dance craze, it was switched to "Monster Mash" to capitalize on the brand new dance craze, the Mashed Potato.
