American troubadour Bob Dylan wrote the song "Things Have Changed" especially for the soundtrack of the 2000 dramatic comedy Wonder Boys, directed by Curtis Hanson. Inspired by Marty Stuart's "The Observations of a Crow," Bob Dylan recorded the song in New York during a break from his US tour with Paul Simon. Considered by many as the song that propelled Bob Dylan into the 21st century, the ominous "Things Have Changed" was released as a single on May 1st, 2000, and reached Number 2 on Billboard's Adult Alternative Songs chart and peaked at Number 58 on the UK Singles Chart. Even though the film was considered a commercial flop at the time, "Things Have Changed" went on to win Best Original Song at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards. In the following years, "Things Have Changed" was included in the anthologies The Essential Bob Dylan, The Best of Bob Dylan, and Dylan.
