"Footloose" is a song by American singer-songwriter Kenny Loggins, specially written for the soundtrack of the 1984 film of the same name. Written by Kenny Loggins with Dean Pitchford, the infectious track was released as a single in January 1984 and went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, staying there for three weeks. Only a year later, it received a nomination for Best Original Song at the 1985 Academy Awards but ended up losing to Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" from The Woman in Red. Perhaps one of Loggins' best-known songs, "Footloose" has since attained iconic status thanks to its association with the film. The song would gain new life after country music artist Blake Shelton covered it for the 2011 remake of the film, reaching Number 63 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 53 on the Hot Country Songs chart. In 2018, Kenny Loggins' version was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress.
