The scene-setting sound of legendary swing music VIP Cab Calloway – one of the original performers of Harlem's notorious and controversial Cotton Club – was thrust under the spotlight in this 1998 re-interpretation of his iconic 1931 hit "Minnie the Moocher". The southern Californian swing revival troupe Big Bad Voodoo Daddy covered the jazz-scat song – which features the memorable call-and-response line "Hi-de-hi-de-hi-di-hi!" that gave Cab Calloway his "Hi-De-Ho Man" nickname – for their second studio album and major-label debut Americana Deluxe (1998), and scored a gig at the Super Bowl XXXIII halftime show the following year. They later included their version of the song on their 2009 tribute album to Cab Calloway, How Big Can You Get?: The Music of Cab Calloway. "Minnie the Moocher" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and added to the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry in 2019.
