Animated trouble-makers Beavis and Butt-Head entertained 1990s America with their irreverent satire about two teenage boys from Texas that debuted in March 1993 on MTV. With theme music created by King of the Hill composer Mike Judge, the show was packed full of musical high jinks that in 1993 spawned one of the best-selling comedy albums to grace the US charts: The Beavis and Butt-Head Experience. A play on The Jimi Hendrix Experience, this genre-spanning soundtrack album leapt from metal to rap and rock with eye-watering cuts from Anthrax ("Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun," which was originally performed by the Beastie Boys), Nirvana, and a whole cast of 1990s rock and rap cover stars. The album's clincher is a hidden track with Cher on "I Got You Babe," originally a hit for the US popstar in 1965. The amped-up new version, complete with lysergic animated video featuring a leather-clad Cher in the flesh, graced the charts all over Europe, from Sweden to the UK.
