Initially released in 2015 and featured on her Running with the Wolves EP as well as the album All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend, "Runaway" by ethereal Norwegian singer-songwriter Aurora (and Chemical Brothers collaborator) was given a heavy dose of fame in 2021 thanks to social media. The Nordic folk-iced electronic pop song took on a new life of its own when it was first used to soundtrack an Instagram filter on the platform (known as the 'Runaway Aurora' filter), which was similar to TikTok's 'silhouette challenge' and eventually made its fame on TikTok. After the song resurfaced on social media platforms, it traveled all the way to Number 25 on the UK charts and right to the top of Billboard's Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. "Runaway's" influence extends outside the realm of video-focused social media networking too: Bille Eilish heaped praise on the song's video to claim it inspired her to get into music.
