Southern rockers Atlanta Rhythm Section were founded in 1970 by singer Rodney Justo, guitarists Barry Bailey and J. R. Cobb, bassist Paul Goddard, keyboardist Dean Daughtry, and drummer Robert Nix. The band's debut self-titled album arrived two years later and marked the start of a blues-blended rock 'n' roll voyage that continued to gather pace throughout the 1970s, docking at highlights like 1977 album A Rock and Roll Alternative and this track. "Homesick" kicked off their tenth LP Quinella (1981), their only record for Columbia but one which cracked the Billboard Hot 200 chart nonetheless. Stuffed with 1960s rock references ("Jimi Hendrix," "Where were you in '69", "Hazy dreams of Monterrey.... and Woodstock") "Homesick" showcases the Georgia group's killer combination of poker-hot guitars and Buddy Buie's powerhouse, gritty voice. In addition to Quinella, which spawned the band's final Top 40 entry in "Alien," "Homesick" remains a firm fan favorite.
