What became an anthem of courage for others started as a very personal song of hope for Andra Day. “Rise Up” was written during a low point in the singer’s life. She recalls both her music and personal life were stagnating and a good friend had been diagnosed with cancer. She wrote the song as a sort of prayer to herself, “I thought about what I needed to hear to be able to get back on my feet”. This inspiring song is included on Day’s Grammy-nominated album Cheers to the Fall. The backing track for “Rise Up” is available with background vocals or as an instrumental on Karaoke Version.
