Originally written by indie rockers The Zutons, "Valerie" – which was released as a single in June 2006 and featured on the UK band's second studio album. Tired of Hanging Around, that same year – was given the cover treatment by producer Mark Ronson and the late, great Amy Winehouse in 2007. The international hit, which was recorded by the pair for Mark Ronson's second studio album Version (2007), reached Number 2 on the UK Singles Chart and became synonymously linked with the English popstar and her faithful producer. A classic with a Motown groove, it later transpired that the inspiration for "Valerie" came from Valerie Star, a makeup artist who had previously dated The Zutons' frontman Dave McCabe, who in the song is eager to win her heart. "Won't you come on over? / Stop makin' a fool out of me / Why don't you come on over, Valerie."
