"Without You" is a power ballad by British-Australian soft rock duo Air Supply, from their 1991 comeback album, The Earth Is ... Released as their debut on Giant Records, the album was produced by Harry Maslin and marked the band's return after a brief hiatus in 1987. Their emotive take on "Without You" was released as the lead single for the album, which was produced by legendary Beatles engineer Geoff Emerick. "Without You" was first recorded by the British rock group Badfinger, appearing on their 1970 album No Dice. The track, co-written by band members Pete Ham and Tom Evans, was a fusion of two of their individual works: Ham's "If it's Love" and Evans' "I Can't Live." Despite the creators' initial skepticism about its potential, the song later gained international acclaim with several artists, including Harry Nilsson, T. G. Sheppard, and Mariah Carey, producing their own popular versions. Air Supply's rendition transformed the original's rawer guitar-based sound into a tender, emotionally resonant, piano-driven piece.
