Preceded by the gentle instrumental piece "Dulcimer Stomp," "The Other Side" is a song from American rock band Aerosmith's 1989 tenth studio LP, Pump. It was written by lead singer Steven Tyler in collaboration with musician and producer Jim Vallance, whose résumé includes having penned hits for established artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Carly Simon, Bryan Adams, and many more. Pairing the band's powerful hard rock sound with brass synthesizers and other zeitgeisty production elements from the 1980s, "The Other Side" is a vibrant rock number about a turbulent yet addicting romantic relationship. Following its commercial release, the legendary team of Holland-Dozier-Holland was given songwriting credits after they threatened to sue due to similarities with their song "Standing in the Shadows of Love." Over the next few years, "The Other Side" won Best Rock Video at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards and became a part of popular culture after being featured in Tony Scott's 1993 film, True Romance.
