"Chiquitita" turned heartbreak and melancholy into one of ABBA's best anthems—and their first hit of 1979. The song was given a number of different names (including "Kålsupare," "3 Wise Guys," "Chiquitita Angelina" and "In the Arms of Rosalita") before the group settled on "Chiquitita," which translates as "little one." "Chiquitita" was written to soothe a heartbroken friend and was released in January 1979 as the first single from ABBA's sixth album Voulez-Vous (1979). ABBA later sang the Latino-infused song in Spanish at the suggestion of an RCA Records employee in Argentina, Buddy McCluskey. The transformed track was then featured on ABBA's Spanish-language album of 1980, Gracias Por La Música, which also offered new takes on "I Have a Dream" ("Estoy Soñando"), "Knowing Me, Knowing You" ("Conociéndome, Conociéndote") and others. In 2021, the original version of the "Chiquitita" outro got swept up in the TikTok trend for slowed-down songs.
