It's not clear if The Who were seizing on the anti-disco sentiments of the era or simply writing a song about the ageing process ("Bye, goodbye Sister Disco, now I go / I go where the music fits my soul"), but the pulsating sound of "Sister Disco" is certainly clear in its sonic intent. Written by Pete Townshend and recorded at the height of the disco craze in 1978, the electronic-flavored "Sister Disco" was built around an ARP 2600 synthesizer and produced by Glyn Johns and Jon Astley. "Sister Disco" was included on The Who's eighth studio album, Who Are You—the follow-up to their previously released seventh album The Who by Numbers (1975)—which was issued in August 1978 by Polydor Records in the UK and MCA Records in the US. Who Are You—which was notable for being the last Who album to feature iconic drummer Keith Moon (who passed away three weeks after it was released)—went to number two in the US and number six in the UK.
