I’ll Take the Blame is a song by American bluegrass and neotraditional country singer, songwriter, and mandolin player Ricky Skaggs. Ricky Skaggs has had a long and celebrated career in the world of traditional country music, getting his start as a child star playing on television shows along with superstars like Earl Scruggs. After playing with The Country Gentlemen and working with Emmylou Harris, he kicked off his solo career in 1975 with the album That’s It! His debut album was followed up by the single I’ll Take the Blame,” a country ballad that would also appear on his debut album Sweet Temptation (1979). I’ll Take the Blame is a song about attempting to fix a failing romantic endeavor by owning up to the relationship’s troubles. It was originally written by Carter Stanley. The song went on to peak at Number 86 on the US Billboard Country chart and established Ricky Skaggs in the world of contemporary country music.
