Trucker's son Randall King grew up in West Texas before he later upped sticks to the birthplace of Buddy Holly, Lubbock, where he began focusing on his songwriting career. Debut album Old Dirt Road arrived in 2013 and a self-titled follow-up emerged in 2018. "Mirror, Mirror" is the third track on Randall King, and a paean to swooning traditional country that's also packed full of relatable references. "Mirror, mirror on the wall / Who's the biggest fool of all," asks Randall King in the opening verse of "Mirror, Mirror," a twist on the magic mirror metaphor first immortalised in the Snow White fairytale. This reflective favourite and melancholic heartbreaker from the country star's 2018 self-titled album showcases the Texan's rodeo-sized croon and his sometimes downhearted subject matter. The track was cooked up during a songwriting retreat at Larry Joe Taylor’s Melody Mountain Ranch near Stephenville, Texas.
