"Runaround Sue" is a song originally performed by American singer Dion and co-written with Ernie Maresca in 1961. The track was later by Rhode Island rock band John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band in 1983. This version was featured on the soundtrack of the film Eddie and the Cruisers, directed by Martin Davidson. Tasked with finding a band that could channel the energy of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Dion and The Belmonts, and The Doors, music supervisor Kenny Vance chose John Cafferty & The Brown Beaver Band to record the film's soundtrack. Their rendition of "Runaround Sue" captures the energy and style of the early rock and roll era while infusing it with a 1980s rock sensibility. Musically, the song is a doo-wop-influenced rock and roll tune, characterized by its upbeat tempo and memorable chorus. Its lyrics revolve around the heartbreak and betrayal by a promiscuous lover, warning others about the emotional dangers of falling for someone so unreliable.
