The squiggly, new wave flair of "All the Things She Said" may not immediately convey the political conscience behind "All the Things She Said," but listen to the heartfelt lyrics ("Anywhere you go, you know I'll still be waiting") and it all starts to make sense. Simple Minds' lead singer Jim Kerr was moved to write "All the Things She Said" after stumbling across an article about letters written to Polish political prisoners in the Soviet Union by their lovesick wives. "All the Things She Said" was issued in 1986 as the third single from Simple Minds' seventh studio album, Once Upon a Time, which carried a brawnier, more anthemic sound than their previous efforts, largely thanks to album producer Jimmy Iovine. "All the Things She Said" finished at number 9 on the UK Singles Chart and at number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2013, the song enjoyed a new lease of life when it was featured in the popular video game, Grand Theft Auto V.
